WWE Smackdown Results - 9/23/2011
Report by: Guilherme Jaeger of

Smackdown opens with it's usual intro. The SD locker room is at ringside as Executive Vice President of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis speaks in the ring. He greets everyone and says that in the absence of the Chief Operating Officer Triple H he reunited the whole locker room to discuss the fact that HHH has lost total control of the WWE. That chaos concluded in the dismissal of two WWE superstars, R-Truth and The Miz. He, on the other hand, changed his mind. He believes HHH has control. Some may not agree, but on Monday, he looked into Triple H's eyes, he saw determination, and that tonight, when he arrives, everyone will see that. With that said, he announces the new World Heavyweight Champion, Mark Henry.

Henry enters the stage, as the Smackdown roster move themselves out of his way towards the ring when he stares at them. Laurinaitis shakes his hand, and gives him his mic.

Mark says that it took him 15 years for him to win this title, and that it will take 15 more for someone to take it from him. No man will take what he has. He than says to Ezekiel Jackson and Teddy Long didn't believe, but they believe now.

Out comes Triple H. HHH asks Mark to hand him the mic, and after a long stare, Henry gives it. The Game was about to speak, but Christian interrupts him. Captain Charisma says that on behalf of himself, the roster and the entire world, that Hunter is doing a great job as the COO, and his treatment of the superstars on SD is excellent. Christian understands that HHH's leadership is done by example, and as a former two-time World Heavyweight Champion he is like that too. He says the entire roster thinks the same way, and that they see him as a leader, and he's "kind of a big deal around here". Christian says that even though "you-know-who" is the Champion, can Triple H picture his face on a billboard, or in a cereal box? Henry tries to interrupt but HHH gestures to let Christian speak for a little more. He says he deserves to be the face of Smackdown, and for him to be the leader of the brand that everyone thinks he is, he kinda needs to be WHC, so he deserves one more match, to become champion. So after "you-know-who" chokes and loses at Hell in a Cell like he always did throughout his career, Christian's gonna be the guy who carries this brand, defeats Randy Orton and become a three-time World Heavyweight Champion.

Triple H asks Christian if that's it, and tells it was pretty good. First of all, he wants to thank the superstars for coming to the ringside tonight. He guarantees that he is in complete control of the WWE. As for Christian's thoughts, he appreciates him for stepping up as a leader, and he agrees with leadership by example, so he'll let Christian do just that in front of all of his peers, because later tonight in the main event, he will be in a Lumberjack Match for the World Heavyweight Championship against "you-know-who", Mark Henry! Christian complains to HHH off-mic as the COO exits the ring.

Backstage, Sheamus is preparing himself, as he has a match next.

Back from break, we're in for our first match of the night.

Sheamus vs. Heath Slater

They circle eachother and Slater talks some trash before the initial lock-up. Sheamus quickly pushes Heath into a corner, then releases the hold. They go for another lock-up, but Slater goes for the back of Sheamus, gut hold and a side headlock, which Sheamus quickly fends off of whipping Slater towards the ropes, and shoulderblocking The One Man Southern Rock Band on his way back. They yell at eachother, Slater pushes Sheamus, and the Celtic Warrior answers with a forearm. After that, Sheamus goes for his hammer clubs in the ropes and the knee on the apron. Is all Sheamus as he slams Slater's head against a turnbuckle and punishes him with repeated hammer fists in the corner. When the ref breaks it up though, Slater finds an opening with an elbow, a kick to the gut and a reverse spinning neckbreaker for two. Slater then chokes Sheamus on the second rope, kicks him in the back of the leg and applies another rest hold. Sheamus fights back, but Slater counters, ducks a clothesline and hits a jumping neckbreaker for a one count. He covers again and only one. Sheamus stand up with a livid look on his face, Slater stays paralyzed and eats two double-arm clotheslines. He is whipped to the corner, tries to fight back with a boot but after he suffers a tilt-a-whirl scoop powerslam. Sheamus hits a rope attack, a running knee and a top rope shoulderblock. He signals for the Brogue Kick, hits it, and this one is over.

Winner: Sheamus via pinfall

We go backstage as Christian tries to convince Great Khali to help him, saying to him that when Khali gets a World Title match, would he like to face a guy like Mark Henry, who took out giants like him, or a smaller, but craftier guy like Christian? Khali doesn't answer and Christian asks repeatedly if Khali understands what he's saying. Khali says that he understands, and jokes that Christian's small. Christian laughs and says that he sees Khali out there. Khali still signals that Christian is small as we go for a break.

Back from the break, we have another match.

Wade Barrett vs. Justin Gabriel

Barrett quickly overpowers Gabriel with a mat slam, and some punches in the corner. Gabriel tries to fight back with a chop, but eats a punch. Barrett than places him between second and third ropes, and delivers knees to Justin's face, and a running big boot, sending Gabriel outside. Barrett puts him back into the ring, covers and gets a two count. Wade then whips Gabriel to a corner, but when he runs towards Gabriel, the South African grabs Barrett's neck with his legs using the ropes for leverage, and delivers a headscissors which sends the former bareknucle champion to the outside, and launches himself with a somersault plancha on Barrett. He places wade back in the ring and hits a lionsault that's good for a nearfall. Gabriel delivers some kicks, a sobat, and goes for an STO, which Barrett escapes with a elbow to the side of the head. Barrett goes for a clothesline but Justin Gabriel counters, this time nailing the STO. Gabriel goes for a top rope move, but Barrett gives him a big boot on while he's on the apron. Barrett picks up the pieces, delivers Wasteland, and this one's over.

Winner: Wade Barrett via pinfall

The announcers plug a match between Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes tonight.

Back from the break, Matt Striker is with Randy Orton. He asks for Orton's thoughts about being in his first match since losing the title, but Randy says no. Striker than simply asks for Randy's thoughts on losing that title, and Randy says that it's like going to hell, but just like the song says, "hell ain't no bad place to be", especially if that's where you have to go to become champion again. So that's where he will drag Mark Henry with him, or maybe it will be Christian who already has a permanent residence there, but one way or another, Orton will come back from there as World Heavyweight Champion.

The announcers plug the Hell in a Cell PPV, and we get a package about the match that gives the show it's name.

Backstage, Christian is talking with someone. Christian says that he isn't just doing a favor to Captain Charisma, but to himself too. The camera opens the angle, showing Ezekiel Jackson as the guy who Christian's talking to. Zeke says that he understands that Christian wants Zeke to help him win, and Christian says it isn't that. Christian says he's a two-time World Heavyweight Champion, and asks how many times has Zeke won it. Jackson gets in his face and Christian backs off, saying that he is in a stressful moment. What he meant is that he knows Ezekiel is the Personification of Domination, and as a former WHC, Christian spots a future champion when he sees one. So he wants Zeke to be there and look at how it's done. Christian says they have an agreement, and that he will see Zeke out there.

The announcers plug the main event, as we go for a break.

Back from break, we get our "From The Vault" segment. The featured match is from 2009, with Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio vs. World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, in a non-title match that ends in a desqualification after the number one contender for the IC title Dolph Ziggler attacks Rey.

After the break, we get our Divas match of the night.

Beth Phoenix and Natalya vs. Katilyn and AJ

Natalya and Kaitlyn start with a lock-up, and Natalya quickly pushes Katilyn to a corner. Natalya goes for a clothesline, but Kaitlyn ducks and hits a dropkick. She runs towards Natalya, but is pushed throat-first on the second rope. Natalya chokes her, and when the ref breaks up, Beth gives a big boot to Kaitlyn from behind his eyes. She slams Kaitlyn's face on the mat, tags Beth Phoenix in, and they hit a double vertical stalling suplex. Beth rubs Kaitlyn's face on the mat, but she fights back and tags in AJ, who comes firing forearms and kicks, but is pushed to the corner. She ducks the corner body splash though, and hits a turnbuckle clothesline. She dropkicks Beth's knees and hits a Shining Wizard, covers and Natalya breaks up the pin by pulling her leg. Kaitlyn attacks Natalya sending both outside. AJ goes after Beth, who pushes her in the corner. AJ grabs her neck with her legs, but Beth counters with a kick on the gut, drags her to the center of the ring, delivers a Glam Slam, and this one's over.

Winners: Beth Phoenix and Natalya via pinfall

The announcers plug Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton coming next.

Back from the break, we get the announced match.

Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton - non-title match

Randy stats at full speed with kicks to the gut. He sends Rhodes outside, delivers a european uppercut and throws Cody back-first on the barricade. The Viper throws Rhodes back to the ring, who quickly reacts with a running chop block as Orton's making his way back. Rhodes then attacks the leg with stomps, and also delivers elbows to the back of the head. His irish whip to the corner is reversed, he counters Orton's run with an elbow to the side of the head, but Randy hits several punches and stomps. Rhodes then quickly goes back to attacking the left leg of Orton with kicks, stomps, elbows and knees. Rhodes is relentless, and slams Orton's knee to the mat. Orton tries to fight back but is again attacked in the knee. Rhodes goes ringside while Orton's still in the ring, drags Orton close to the ringpost by the leg, and drives Randy's leg against it twice. He enters the ring and goes to remove the turnbuckle pad. When the ref sees it, he tells Cody to back off. It was a ploy though, as Rhodes removes his mask and hits Orton with it while the ref isn't watching. He goes for a cover, but Orton kicks out. The ref argues with Rhodes about the mask as Orton stands up looking livid. Rhodes goe for a gut kick that's blocked. Randy picks the mask from Rhodes' face, and hits him with it, ending this match.

Winner: Cody Rhodes via disqualification

Orton goes wild, attacking Rhodes repeatedly with his own mask. He then places Cody in position for his apron DDT and hits it.

We go backstage as Christian is talking with Sheamus. Before Sheamus says anything, Christian gives him a potato, saying that he knows Irish folks love potatos. Captain Charisma says that while Sheamus kicked him in the face at Night of Champions, what he said still goes, and that after Christian wins the title back, Sheamus will be the first one to get a title match, so he asks if Sheamus will be there the lumberjack match. Sheamus says that of course he will, and he appreciates the gift. Chrsitan walks off, and Sheamus takes a bite, and then spits it off, saying that that potato isn't from Ireland, it's from Idaho.

The main event is plugged, and we go for a break.

Back from the break, Khali makes his way to the ring (back with his Punjabi Playboy entrance song), as we go for a match.

The Great Khali vs. Jinder Mahal

Mahal tells Khali to lie down so he can pin him, but Khali won't do it, so Mahal kicks Khali's leg and goes with hammer clubs on Khali's back. Khali pushes Mahal and gives him a clothesline on his way back from the ropes. He then smashes Mahal's head on the turnbuckle and gives chops his chest. Mahal rolls out of the ring, tells Khali again to lie down, but he says no again. So Mahal goes back to the ring, escapes the Punjabi Plunge, attacks Khali's knee with stomps, and delivers a DDT and a knee drop for a two count. Mahal then works Khali on the ground with a front facelock, but Khali stands up and lifts Jinder Mahal, drops him to the mat and breaks the hold. Khali clotheslines Mahal two times and ends his sequence with a punch. He lifts Mahal, but Jinder counters with another kick to the knee. Khali grabs him though, delivers the Punjabi Plunge, and covers Mahal with just one foot to win.

Winner: The Great Khali via pinfall

The announcers plug the main event again as we go for another break.

Back from break, Sin Cara enters as we have another match.

Sin Cara (Mistico) vs. Mr. Money In The Bank Daniel Bryan

Both shake hands to start. Bryan works a side headlock that Cara quickly escapes, but is caught into a side headlock takedown. Sin Cara places Bryan in a leg lock, but Bryan quickly moves out of it and uses his signature Romero Special, that is turned into a pin in predicament, but Cara is too close to the ropes for it to count. Bryan delivers an european uppercut, and whips Cara to the corner, but eats a boot to the face when he runs towards Sin Cara, who goes for a headscissors that Bryan counters, but Cara counters again with a takedown. Cara runs towards Bryan on the corner, Daniel Bryan back body drops him, but he lands on his feet on the apron and delivers a kick to Bryan's temple. Springboard cross body and a two count. Cara goes for a Rey Mysterio-style bulldog, but Bryan counters into a german suplex that's good for a nearfall. Bryan goes for a back suplex, but Cara lands on his feet, run the ropes to get momentum and hit a handspring elbow. Bryan rolls out of the ring, but Cara goes on the apron and jumps into Bryan, delivering a hurricanrana that sends the submission specialist back-first against the steel steps. Sin Cara throws Bryan back into the ring and goes to the top rope, but the imposter Sin Cara (Hunico) pushes him out of the top rope while the ref isn't watching. The imposter seizes the moment, kicks an incoming Bryan in the head, and delivers a Swanton Bomb (called Falling Star by Hunico, as that was his finisher in FCW) for the three count.

Winner: Sin Cara via pinfall

We go backstage as Christian is seen standing in front of Randy Orton's locker room door. He knocks on, but instead of Orton, Zack Ryder is the one who comes out of it. Christian says that he loved Ryder and Hugh Jackman's stuff on Raw, and that Christian could be Broski of The Week. Ryder says he knows where Christian's coming from, but he can't help him as he is the Assistant General Manager of Smackdown. Christian says Ryder actually can help him, if he manages to convince Randy Orton to help Christian tonight. Ryder's phone rings and he asks Christian to hold on a second. He says to "Hugh" that "Randy's in". Zack walks off, and Christian thinks about knocking on Orton's door again, but chooses not to. We go for a break.

Back from the break we get a tag team match.

Tag Team Champions Air Boom vs. The Usos - non-title match

Bourne and Jey Uso lock-up with some quick chain wrestling before they separate. They lock-up again but Bourne quickly gets out and delivers a sobat followed by a cover for two. Bourne hits a kick and pushes Jey to the ropes. Jimmy tags himself in, and when bourne goes for a springboard splash, both Usos catch him in mid-air, and do a aided sidewalk slam. Jimmy covers and Kingston breaks the pin. Jimmy tags Jey in and delivers a backbreaker, holding Bourne for Jey to land a top rope elbow drop to his face. Jey tags Jimmy in, who gives Evan a hip attack on the corner. Cover and two count, and Jimmy puts Evan in a rest hold. Bourne tries to fight out and get the tag. He lands some kicks to Jimmy, attacks Jey and delivers a seated hurricanrana on Jimmy. Bourne finally manages to get the tag to Kofi, while Jey Uso is tagged in. Kofi goes with a sequence consisting of a springboard clothesline, two karate chop and a dropkick. He goes for a corner running splash, misses, but manages to counter an incoming Jey Uso with a hanging overhead kick. Kofi goes to the top rope and lands a cross body press for a near fall. He signals for Trouble in Paradise, hits Jimmy who tried to interfere from outside, and when Kofi turns around he is met with a superkick from Jey that almost gives him the win. The Usos go for a double team move, but Kingston counters into a hurricanrana on Jey, lands Trouble in Paradise on Jimmy, and tags in Evan Bourne, who hits Air Bourne for the three count.

Winners: Air Boom via pinfall

The announcers plug the main event, which is next.

Back from break, we get the Raw Rebound, featuring the Hugh Jackman appearance, and after it, we go to the main event, as the whole Smackdown roster is already at ringside. After both challenger and champion's entrances, we go for a break.

Back from commercials, we get our World Title match.

World Heavyweight Championship Lumberjack Match - Christian vs. WMark Henry

Christian circles Henry, and tries to get out of the ring, only to find the lumberjacks around him. He thinks twice and stays inside. They lock-up and Henry shoves down Christian hard, sending face first to the mat. He tries to stomp Christian, but Captain Charisma ducks. Christian grabs Henry in a waist lock, but Henry just goes for the corner to break-up, lands an elbow, and whips Christian hard against the turnbuckles. Henry taunts Christian, lifts him back up, and whips him to the ropes. His clothesline is ducked, though, and Christian answers with loud slaps to his face. Henry grabs Christian by the throat and tosses him out of the ring. The lumberjacks go get him, but Zeke stops them. When Christian goes to thank him, Jackson gives him a knee to the gut and puts him back to the ring. Henry covers, but only gets a two count. Henry gives Christian a headbutt, and puts him in a shoulder grip lock. Henry then pushes Christian towards the ropes, and does a free fall drop that's good for two. Again Henry locks a shoulder grip on Christian. Henry drops Christian, and tries to pick him up only to get a kick in the face. Christian goes for his springboard sunset pin, but is caught mid-air into a bearhug. When Christian is trying to fight out of it, Henry grabs him in by his waist and drives him back-first on the turnbuckle. Henry go for a body splash, but Christian ducks and fights back with repeated slaps. He clothesline Henry who doesn't fall. He tries again but doesn't succeed. He tries to whip Henry into a corner but can't do it, and is whipped instead. Henry goes for another body splash but eats two boots on the face. Christian gives Henry two missile dropkicks, covers and gets a nearfall. Christian thinks Killswitch but Henry counters with an elbow. Christian runs towards Henry, but eats a clothesline that's good for two. Christian goes for a corner, kicks Henry twice in the gut, and tries again for a springboard sunset flip, but Henry doesn't go down, and tries a hip splash, but Christian rolls out. Henry rolls out, but the lumberjacks do nothing to him. He grabs Christian by his legs and pulls him outside. Then the lumberjacks go all after Henry, who ultimately fights them all off, and throws Baretta into half the roster, as Christian looks terrified from the outside. He tries to escape from the match, but Sheamus comes from the back and puts him back into the ring. Mark Henry quickly delivers World's Strongest Slam, and this one's over.

Winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion: Mark Henry via pinfall

He tries an RKO, but Henry pushes him off. Orton ducks Henry's clothesline attempt and delivers a dropkick sending Henry outside. Orton's music plays as both stare, and the show ends.
