With Ronda Rousey returning to the UFC next month there is once again talk of her doing another cross-over appearance for WWE. When she appeared for WWE with The Rock at Wrestlemania 31, the thinking was it would lead to something at the show this year. However, all plans were out the window when she suffered her shocking defeat to Holly Holm last November.
Now, there is talk of WWE getting a UFC fighter to appear at Wrestlemania 33 next year in Orlando and Rousey’s name is once again on the short list. Stephanie McMahon told TMZ Sports earlier this week that she was certainly going to try to get Rousey in WWE after Rousey told Ellen that her fight against Amanda Nunes next month would definitely be one of her last.
Another name that we cannot forget that we’re sure Vince McMahon and WWE would be interested in is current UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. McGregor is the UFC’s biggest star and called out the entire WWE roster (minus Triple H and Vince McMahon) earlier this year.
When WWE worked with the UFC to negotiate Brock Lesnar’s fight at UFC 200, it was understood that it opened them up to have a UFC star under contract appear at one of their shows. SummerSlam was a likely date but it never materialized. A lot of people forget that Brock Lesnar was only able to fight Mark Hunt in UFC because WWE approved it. We’re told Shane McMahon actually played a role in scouting Hunt as an opponent WWE was OK with Lesnar fighting.
Any cross-over appearance would obviously have to approved by the UFC and Dana White and we’ll continue to track the rumors as they materialize.
