John Cena and Samoa Joe trained together in the California-Based Ultimate Pro Wrestling, which was affiliated with WWE’s developmental system in the early 2000s. The two even competed together in the ring and were friends outside of it.
WWE posted a new video clip questioning if the two will ever cross paths within their ring. Check it out here:
As we’ve noted on a number of occasions, Samoa Joe is expected to be called up to the main WWE roster soon. At one point he was set to be called up before the end of the year but it’s very likely we see him on the main roster some time in 2017.
The fact that Cena and Joe trained together at UPW should not surprise any of our readers as we have explored this and their friendship outside of the ring on a number of occasions. What won Cena over with Vince McMahon is his look, something Samoa Joe has always lacked in his eyes. It wasn’t until there were others that had success regardless of look that caused Vince to revisit Joe, when many felt he could be at the level of Cena.
Joe was a top star at Ring of Honor and TNA Wrestling before coming to WWE.
