Written by Sean Hopkins
The show opens with a video package highlighting the main feuds heading into tonight as well a focus on the punishing nature of the Hell in a Cell match. Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens and Jinder Mahal vs. Shinsuke Nakamura get a bit of featured time, as well as New Day vs. The Usos and Natalya vs. Charlotte Flair.
The Cell is already down, having been shown being lowered on the pre-show. Tom Phillips welcomes us to the show and the Detroit crowd seems hot to start the show. Big E shouts out Motown, telling them not to be sour and to clap for the world famous 4-time Champs, and feel the power! The New Day make their way out to a warm welcome from the fans. All three men enter the Cell and make their way into the ring. Kofi says there's about to be a jail break in Detroit Rock City tonight. Woods says two teams enter, and one team leaves the Cell, this big huge monstrosity made of 5 tons of steel. This is about to get real. Kofi says it's a monstrosity, but in their hands, it can be their greatest weapon. the Uso's love to say they've got the tag division on lock, but what they fail to understand is that New Day has the keys baby! Big E starts to say something, but cuts himself off. He says the Uso's talk about the penitentiary, but today will be the New Day apocalypse. You better call your priest because they're about to drop biblical doom and gloom.
The Usos make their way out next to a much more subdued reaction from the crowd.
Smackdown Tag Team Championship Hell in a Cell Match
The New Day vs. The Usos
Kofi steps to the outside as it looks like Woods and Big E will be handling things tonight.
The bell rings and both teams talk a bit of smack while staring each other down. Both teams bail out to the floor to grab weapons. Big E has a chain and Woods has a colorful kendo stick. The Usos have a chair and kendo stick. Things break down into a brawl immediately as all the weapons are dropped. Big E knocks one of the Usos out of the ring, and Woods connects with a stiff forearm on the other Uso. Woods picks up the chain and wraps it around his fist. Woods hits the ropes and is picked up by Big E, then planted down on top of one of the Usos, blasting him with the chain. The other Uso pulls himself up on the apron and Big E tries to spear him through the ropes, but he moves out of the way and Big E crashes to the floor. Jimmy Uso is in the ring and he dives over the top to the outside on top of Woods. Big E spears Jimmy through the ropes into the Cell wall and it looks like he rams the top of his head into the Cell wall in the process. Woods brings Jey back into the ring and Big E hands him the trombone.
Woods blasts Jey with the trombone, then Big E pulls out another trombone from under the ring, which Woods breaks by hitting Jey across the stomach. Big E goes back under the ring and grabs a cow bell this time, blasting Jey across the back repeatedly. Big E goes back under the ring and brings out a gong, handing it to Woods. Woods bangs the gong before hitting Jey across the back. Jimmy and Jey both have kendo sticks in hand and then crack Big E across the back before breaking the sticks. Both Usos wind up on either side of Big E and hit him in the chest and back with kendo stick shots. The Usos leave the ring and go to work on Woods, taunting Kofi while continuing the assault on Woods. Jimmy traps Woods against the Cell wall so that Jey can connect with a running hip bump to the face.
Back in the ring, the Usos go back to work on Big E. Big E ducks a kendo stick shot and is able to launch Jimmy with a belly to belly suplex. Jey is taken to the apron, and he pulls Big E out with him. Big E pushes Jey into the ring post, but he comes back with a quick superkick and both men are staggered. Big E picks up Jey and he drops him straight down to the ring floor and Woods jumps in with a disgusting backstabber on the way down. Big E brings things back into the ring and he and Woods connect with Up Up Down Down, but the pin is broken up. Big E clotheslines Jey over the top rope and to the floor. Woods goes back under the ring and collects another six kendo sticks. Woods cracks Jey in the stomach and on his side. Jey Uso manages to get free and break up the New Day with a kendo stick shot to Big E and a superkick to Woods. Big E tries to fight back and Jey ends up with Big E in Electric chair position, and Jimmy dives through the ropes with a giant shoulderblock and sends Big E crashing into the Cell wall.
The Usos climb up and both hit frog splashes in quick succession on Big E, but Big E is still able to kick out at two. The Usos have handcuffs and they use them to trap Big E and Woods. The Usos handcuff Woods and trap him hung up on the ring post. They use kendo stick shots, and Woods tries to fight back with kicks, but it just leads to more abuse. Big E's handcuff is no longer attached, and he backdrops Jimmy over the top rope before launching Jey with a belly to belly suplex. Big E heads outside and he grabs Jimmy, ramming him into the Cell wall with a running slam. Kofi is directing him to do it again, so he picks up Jimmy and runs him into Jey this time. Big E send Jey back into the ring and connects with the Big Ending, but Jey is able to kick out at two. Big E goes for a stretch muffler on Jey, but Jimmy connects with two superkicks, and he and Jey connect with a double superkick. Jimmy and Jey go up in opposite corners and hit simultaneous from splashes, but Woods is able to make it in to break the count.
Jimmy and Jey take turns blasting Woods with kendo stick shots, and Woods comes back with a headbutt, and repeated clubbing blows. The numbers catch up to Woods as he's trapped by one Uso, and blasted with more kendo stick shots from the other. The Usos take Woods to the mat and lay a chair across his midsection. The Usos head to the top for Double Uce, and they're able to get the three count on Woods.
