There is a new rumor online being attributed to Dave Meltzer’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter publication that WWE is exploring their options about reducing the number of pay-per-view events next year due to a decline in WWE Network subscribers. After WWE Roadblock on Dec 18, WWE will have ran 15 pay-per-views in 2016 with five events exclusive to the WWE Network.
While I’m not sure if this lines up with what Meltzer is hearing, sources directly connected to WWE have indicated the company plans to run 16 pay-per-views in 2017. That could certainly change but was the plan last we heard. If true, it would be less than two pay-per-views per month and right in line with what they did this year.
