From the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida
Report by Sean Hopkins of

The WWE Royal Rumble Kickoff is available in the video below:

The show opens with a limo pulling up backstage. Vince McMahon hops out of the limo with Stephanie. They talk about how chilly it is before meeting up with Jojo. Jojo talks about McMahon's history with Reigns. Reigns says for the first time ever, Reigns will compete in the Rumble defending the championship. If Roman can defend the belt that's history in the making. Stephanie says he's got as much chance as anyone else to go to the main event of WrestleMania. Vince says he loves it, almost as much as he loves (money, himself, didn't really catch what he said). This transitions us into a video package which of course focuses on the Royal Rumble match itself, and Roman Reigns' predicament of having to defend his title over the course of the match.

The pyro hits and Michael Cole welcomes us to the show and throws it right to the ring for the first match of the evening.

Lillian Garcia runs down the rules of a Last Man Standing match before announcing Dean Ambrose, who comes out to a nice pop. The Orlando crowd seems pretty hot, hopefully they can keep it up throughout the night.

Kevin Owens is out next, and he too gets a pretty positive reaction from the fans in attendance.

Last Man Standing Intercontinental Championship Match
Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens

Owens and Ambrose stare each other down while pacing the ring before the bell.

The bell rings and both men charge into battle, unloading right hands. Ambrose takes Owens into the corner and mounts him for a series of punches before biting at Owens' face. Owens fights back, dropping Ambrose with a couple of big right hands. Owens chops Ambrose, following him around the ring to deliver more chops. Ambrose responds by turning things around and chopping Owens. Ambrose hits a running splash in the corner and follows it up with a bulldog. Owens bails to the floor and Ambrose hits a suicide dive that sends Owens crashing over the announcer's table. Ambrose stands on the announcer's table and drops a double axe handle on Owens before sending him back to the ringside area. Owens catches Ambrose with a shot to the gut, but Ambrose responds by whipping Owens into the ring steps.

Owens makes it back to his feet to see Ambrose with a kendo stick in hand. Ambrose whacks Owens repeatedly in the gut and across the back. Owens ducks a kendo stick shot and scores with a superkick. Owens backs up and hits a huge cannonball on the outside, crashing through Ambrose and the barricade surrounding the timekeeper's area.

Ambrose makes it to his feet at 8, and Owens has the kendo stick, hitting Ambrose hard across the back and bringing things back into the ring. Owens breaks the kendo stick across his knee and jams the pieces into Ambrose's midsection. Owens scores with a big right hand, then a short-arm clothesline. Owens hits a running senton, and gloats to the crowd.

Ambrose bails to the floor and Owens follows, ramming him into the barricade. Owens looks under the ring and tosses a few chairs into the ring, seven in total. Owens grabs one of the chairs and uses it to smash Ambrose in the gut before bringing it crashing down across his back. Owens sets up a couple of chairs and kicks his feet up while the ref counts for Ambrose on the floor. Ambrose makes it back into the ring and gets in a couple of shots, but Owens fights back and shoulders Ambrose. Ambrose fights out of the hold and hits the rebound lariat, and both men are down.

Both men stand and Owens catches Ambrose with a couple of chair shots before screaming that he's the best. Ambrose stands at 6, and Owens tries to suplex him into the chairs that are set up. Ambrose fights out, Owens tries for a powerbomb, but Ambrose backdrops him and sends him crashing through the chairs set up in the middle of the ring. Both men make it back to their feet, with Owens bailing to the floor. Ambrose goes for a suicide dive but he's caught by Owens. Owens drives Ambrose into the ring apron before tossing him into the ring steps a couple of times.

Ambrose is able to fight back up to his feet using the ring steps for support. Owens goes back under the ring and grabs a table, propping it up against the ring. Owens takes the table and sets it up next to the ring post. Owens goes back under the ring for another table, setting it up on top of the first, and the crowd likes what they see. Owens hops up to the apron and grabs Ambrose. Owens looks to try for a superplex from the ring to the outside, but Ambrose fights it off. Ambrose scores with head butts and elbows before dropping down and throwing a chair at Owens' face. The chair wraps itself around Owens' head, and Owens stumbles around. Ambrose hits a series of chops and jabs, but he runs right into a big superkick. Ambrose counters the pop-up powerbomb with a hurricanrana, and Ambrose scores with dirty deeds.

Owens makes it to his feet at 8. Ambrose grabs a chair and slams it down to the mat, hitting dirty deeds again and planting Owens face first on the chair. Owens makes it to his feet by rolling out of the ring at a count of 9.

Lots of love for Owens from the crowd. Ambrose heads out to the floor and goes under the ring for a third table, setting it up between the announcer's table and the ring. Ambrose slams Owens' face into the announcer's table, then he places Owens on the table. Ambrose climbs up to the top rope and drops an elbow, crashing down through Owens and the table to the floor.

Both men get to their feet at 8. Owens pulls himself into the ring and Ambrose seethes out on the floor, pushing aside broken pieces of table. Ambrose goes under the ring and grabs a fourth table, sliding this one into the ring. Ambrose drives a chair into Owens' gut before cracking him across the back. Ambrose sets up the table near the corner of the ring, then he turns to Owens and seats him on the top rope. Ambrose climbs up after Owens, but Owens hits his crazy neckbreaker/fisherman suplex hybrid move from the middle rope through the table.

Ambrose just beats the count, and Owens screams at him to stay down before tossing Ambrose into the ropes for the pop-up powerbomb.

Ambrose still will not quit, standing at 9 before collapsing back to the mat. Owens grabs a chair and whacks Ambrose across the back hard. Owens sets up the chair, then sets up a second chair. Owens sets up four chairs facing eachother (2x2) before laying a fifth across the top. Owens lays Ambrose on the chairs and heads to the top, but Ambrose pops up and pushes Owens to the outside, through the two stacked tables that were set up on the floor. The ref heads to the outside and counts Owens out.

Winner and STILL WWE Intercontinental Champion: Dean Ambrose

After a couple of commercials, the announcers turn their attention to The New Day vs. The Uso's, recapping some of the recent history between these two teams, though they spend much more time recapping Chris Jericho destroying Xavier Woods' trombone during a match on Raw.
